“Disaster” touches the world

A meteorite, believed to have a maximum diameter of 10 meters, passed within 400 kilometers of our planet on November 13 and continued its journey through space.

According to the Science Alert news, scientists were able to detect the meteorite in question hours after it tangentially crossed our planet.

According to the same report, the Final Warning System for Terrestrial Effect Asteroids (ATLAS) program at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii detected the meteor on November 14.

In other words, the asteroid could be detected 15 hours after reaching within 400 kilometers of our planet.

According to scientists, a catastrophe would be inevitable if the meteorite fell into a city. So how prepared is our planet for a possible asteroid impact?

The answer to this scenario, one of the most popular topics in Hollywood movies, came from NASA. According to the American Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, our future is by no means bright in such a situation.

Warning that our planet is not ready for a meteor strike, NASA employee Dr. Joseph Nuth stressed that there may not be time to intervene on a surprise asteroid in his speech at the American Geophysical Union meeting.

Stating that the biggest problem is the lack of a definite road map for what humanity will do in such a situation, Nuth pointed out that such a risk can occur at any time and made a suggestion.

According to Nuth, the surest way to eliminate this risk is to send a vehicle into space whose only mission is to examine asteroids that could hit our planet.

Stating that this vehicle could be put into operation within a year if sufficient funds were allocated, Nuth added that the vehicle in question would also be able to stop asteroids that could hit our planet.
