Leopoldo Luque, the doctor who accompanied Diego Maradona in his last months of life, once again publicly defended himself after relatives of the star had suspected his name for alleged negligence.

“I didn’t treat my father that way,” the professional said through tears in a telephone conversation with Samuel “Chiche” Gelblung in Crónica.

This morning, Luque spontaneously appeared before the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate Maradona’s death.

He intended to testify, but for now he will not be able to do so because justice has not yet defined his trial situation. For now, his lawyers have reported that they have not been informed of a formal complaint.

Against Luque they targeted the daughters of Diego Armando Maradona and the lawyer of Diego Fernando, the product of his relationship with Verónica Ojeda.

The doctor assured that he was not responsible for the health of the “Ten” and agreed with one of the family’s concerns to find a doctor to take care of the health of the world champion.

“What I hope is that when this is all over someone will apologize to me and thank me as the whole family thanked me,” she said.

Luque referred to Maradona’s condition after the operation for the subdural hematoma on his head: “Diego was very well after the operation, his heart had sequelae, but the operation could be performed. The cardiological conditions were typical of his antecedent, but it was not at all alarming to take measures for discharge if they had not been taken ”.

Other allegations

Previously, Mario Braudy, Verónica Ojeda’s lawyer and current partner, considered today that “Diego’s death was avoidable”.

According to the lawyer, according to what is known, “there were neither adequate elements, nor drugs for the heart, nor were there clinical studies” to cure the health of the former world champion.

“Obviously, if there is a person who has a serious heart problem and you don’t give him the drug, nor do you study at least to find out how he is, at least you have to investigate,” he commented.

He added that due to the agreement he had with Maradona, he can affirm that “Diego wanted to live and was not in a position to die like him”, remarked the lawyer.

When asked about the blow suffered by the former footballer, Luque said: “They didn’t tell me and it’s irrelevant, the autopsy has already marked the cause of death.”

During this morning, and after the forays into Maradona’s home and clinic, the lawyer and representative of the former football player Matías Morla came out to support him.

“I understand and share the prosecution’s work, but only I know, Dr. Luque, what you did for Diego’s health, how you took care of him, you accompanied him and how he loved you,” he said in a post on his account on the social network Twitter.

“Diego loved you and as his friend I will not leave you alone. You left blood, sweat and tears and truth always triumphs, ”he added.

Morla had not yet been able to access the case, because he did not represent anyone because his client was Maradona, although this Monday he approached a letter to make his representation of the “Pelusa” sisters official.

They are Claudia Nora, Ana Estela, María Rosa and Rita Mabel, who filed plaintiff in the case investigating the death of the star.
