Diablo IV remains in the shadows and this too literally. Blizzard San Francisco has made it pretty obvious that development is nowhere near completion. Fans, however, began to hope that a possible release might be imminent.
According to a recent post on Reddit, Diablo IV appeared on Blizzard’s official Battle.net launcher today, but without the download option. The game has since been removed from the live and beta launchers.
While many fans are under the impression that Blizzard is opening pre-orders, the developer was likely rolling out an internal compilation of the game through the Launcher for testing purposes. It was just a coincidence that some players were able to see the list in their pitchers at the time.
Note that an encrypted build for something called Project Fenris was discovered a few years ago in the launcher as well and was highly regarded as an internal codename of Diablo IV.
Accepting pre-orders now would be silly, as it is speculated that the launch will take place in a few years. A beta is also not expected to arrive next year, at least based on how Blizzard only shares quarterly updates on possible changes to the game’s design.
The only thing confirmed now is that Diablo IV is still in development for Xbox One, PC and PS4. It goes without saying that a launch could also take place on the new Xbox Series X / S and PS5 consoles, alongside the Nintendo Switch, considering that the hybrid console eventually received the latest version.
