Since the outbreak began in November 2019, 31,270 clinically suggestive cases of dengue have been recorded. But the indicators are decreasing.
The dengue epidemic continues in Martinique. Viral circulation is, however, less and less active there, as evidenced by the epidemiological surveillance indicators.
“Since mid-September these indicators converge in favor of a slowdown in the epidemic, with values that remain above the epidemic thresholds”, indicates Public Health France. “Viral circulation continues to decline with an estimated number of clinically suggestive cases of dengue between November 16 and 22, 2020, close to 700 against 800 the previous week.”
Since the outbreak began in November 2019, nearly 31,300 clinically suggestive cases of dengue are estimated to have consulted a general practitioner in the city.
Since the start of surveillance, 38 severe cases of dengue have been admitted to an intensive care unit or an intensive care unit (adult and pediatric).
16 deaths, including 10 directly related to dengue
The recent notification of dengue-related death requires ongoing vigilance, Santé Publique France points out.
In total, 16 deaths occurred in hospital and at home have been reported since the beginning of the epidemic, of which 13 since the beginning of September 2020. Among these 16 deaths, 10 have been classified directly related to dengue by the services of the CHU de Martinique, 2 indirectly linked to dengue. This direct or indirect link with dengue has not yet been established for 4 deaths.
“It is therefore necessary in this period of abundant rain to remain vigilant by applying the following actions: destruction of breeding sites, individual protection with repellents, use of mosquito nets, electric snowshoes”.
