COVID-19: the parties raise cases in Rimouski

The situation worsens in the Rimouski region, where private parties and an evening in a bar have led to dozens of new cases and the temporary closure of a nursery.

“Our situation was favorable in front of these parties. Since then, there have been positive cases associated with it and these cases have produced other cases, which in turn have generated other cases. We are currently trying to control what it generates, “said Dr Sylvain Leduc, director of public health at Bas-Saint-Laurent.

Since last Friday, the Rimouski-Neigette region has registered 44 cases of COVID-19.

The epidemiological public health survey reveals that most of the new cases are related to private parties that took place between 12 and 14 November in Rimouski, including a very festive evening at the P’tite grenouille bar.

CPE la Trâlée des Prés in Rimouski, home to 80 children, is now struggling with an outbreak and three staff members have been infected with COVID-19.

The director of public health made it clear that this does not mean that the employees in question attended the parties, but rather that they knew people who were present.

Rimouski Regional Hospital was also hit by a COVID-19 outbreak in one of its hospital units. Four employees received a positive test, but no users have been affected so far.

Three outbreaks in Matane

Three housing communities are now affected by epidemics in Matane.

CHSLD is suffering from an outbreak that currently affects ten residents, one of whom has lost his life, and five workers.

Two other private residences for the elderly are still in a critical situation: the Résidence des Bâtisseurs and the Résidence des Sages.
