While the region hit a milestone last week with 116 new positive cases in one day, the record was broken Thursday with 126 new cases registered in Estrie.
These increases are all the more worrying as they mainly affect the elderly, but also health workers.

Many outbreaks are particularly listed in reception centers, such as Villa-Bonheur in Granby, where 29 residents and eight employees have been reported positive since Wednesday. Of the 102 cases registered in this residence, one third are workers.
The CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS, for its part, must continue to juggle its staff, while 1,769 people were on sick leave in early November.
As of Monday, 84 workers were absent with a positive COVID-19 result, while another 49 were in administrative segregation.
Some CIUSSS services, such as outpatient clinics and services for people suffering from chronic diseases, have had to reduce the burden to deal with the pandemic.
This pressure on the health network is also felt in the Center-du-Québec, where outbreaks hit private residences. At the Jardins du Parc Linéaire, in Victoriaville, the toll was 97 cases on Thursday, including 71 infected residents.
Hospitals fear that they will not be able to treat infected people after the holidays due to their limited capacity and shortage of staff.
Estrie currently has 795 active cases in its territory.
