FRANKFURT, Nov. 23 (Reuters) – Germany could start administering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as early as next month, Health Minister Jens Spahn said, according to comments reported by the press group on Monday. RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland.
“There are reasons to be optimistic about vaccine approval in Europe this year,” he said in the interview. “And we can start (vaccinations) immediately.”
Jens Spahn says he asked the Länder to have vaccination centers by mid-December and that the process is on track. “I’d rather have vaccination centers ready a few days ahead of a licensed vaccine that isn’t used immediately,” he says.
Germany has secured more than 300 million doses of a vaccine through the European Commission, bilateral contracts and purchase options, the minister said, adding that it was more than enough and that the doses could be passed on to other countries.
