Less than two weeks after the decadence announced by the President of the Republic for December 15, all eyes are on the counters. And for good reason, the end of prison is subject to the stated goal of 5,000 contaminations on average per day, plus a decongestion of French hospital services. - Contamination figures
On Wednesday 2 December, France recorded no less than 14,064 new contaminations, almost three times the target set by the government. If, compared to the day before, this figure is increasing (8,083 new contaminations were recorded on Tuesday 1 December, in 24 hours, in France), it is impossible to conclude that there has been a sudden increase in new cases.
And for good reason, the number of new contaminations registered in 24 hours is an indicator that is subject to significant variation, day after day. In particular, it depends on the activity of the laboratories responsible for the tests. Result: the days go by and they are not the same, and it is impossible to compare these data from day to day. In this cycle, the numbers recorded and released on Wednesday are increasingly important, as shown in the graph below (if no graphics are visible, turn off ad blocking).
These 14,064 contaminations must be put into perspective with those of last week: 16,282 new cases were registered on Wednesday 25 November, a far cry from the 28,383 new contaminations registered last week, Wednesday 18 November. Thus, in terms of contamination, the decline is confirmed, week after week.
As for the deaths, this Wednesday 2 December France recorded 313 new deaths related to Covid-19 in the space of 24 hours, which today brings the total toll to 53,816 deaths, recorded simultaneously in hospitals and medical-social institutions.
- The number of hospitalized patients
The pressure on French hospital services continues to gradually decrease. Also in this case the indicators are encouraging: on Wednesday 2 December no fewer than 3,478 patients were registered in the intensive care units against 3,594 the day before, with 161 new hospitalizations in 24 hours, compared to 234 on Monday 30 November. The Institut Pasteur estimates that there will be 1,600 to 2,600 patients in intensive care in mid-December, thus validating the goal set by Emmanuel Macron.
Additionally, the number of people admitted to hospital for Covid-19 dropped slightly, to 26,986 versus 27,611 the day before, after a peak of more than 33,000 patients reached on November 16.
