The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent has reached 2,080,923, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said Tuesday.
The Continental Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic was 49,975 as of Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 1,757,665 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered so far across the continent, according to the Continental Agency for Disease Control and Prevention.
The African countries most affected by COVID-19 in terms of the number of positive cases include South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Ethiopia, as data from Africa CDC showed.
The Southern African region is the region most affected by COVID-19 both in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases and in terms of the number of deaths, it was noted.
The North Africa region is the second most affected African region by COVID-19, according to the Africa CDC.
South Africa currently has the largest number of COVID-19 cases, reaching 769,759.
The country also has the highest number of COVID-19-related deaths, at 20,968.
Morocco comes next with 327,528 confirmed cases and 5,396 deaths, followed by Egypt with 113,381 confirmed cases and 6,560 deaths, Africa CDC said.
