During the Corona crisis, in particular, Google Maps regularly provided its users with new practical features designed to minimize the risk of infection while commuting, shopping or visiting restaurants. As the developers have now announced in a blog post, the next Corona features for the map service are already in the starting blocks.
The first innovation concerns the details of the Covid-19 card: these have been used for several months to see how many Corona cases there have been in a certain section of the map in the last seven days per 100,000 people. To do this, the button for selecting the different card types must be selected in the app at the top right to then access the “Covid-19 Information” overview.
This feature will be expanded in the near future: so all cases recorded in an area as well as links to Covid-19 resources should be available from local authorities. This can be very helpful in learning about local guidelines, test locations and restrictions in specific cities and areas.
