The goal of the operation is to return with lunar soil samples, the first time it has been attempted in more than 40 years. The module, which landed on the Moon on Tuesday (1.12.2020), took off Thursday (3.12.2020) at 11:10 pm Beijing time (15:10 GMT), CCTV said.

If no incidents occur, China will become the third country to bring samples of lunar soil and rocks to Earth, after the United States and the Soviet Union.

The USSR was the last to do so, with the Luna 24 robotic mission in 1976.

This mission is the new stage of the Chinese space program, which at the beginning of 2019 achieved the landing of a device on the opposite side of the satellite for the first time in history.
