A current support document shows that charging the iPhone 12 Mini is only possible with a maximum power of 12 watts. This information also depends on the accessories on the smartphone. As a result, the performance can even drop to 7.5 watts.

A few weeks ago, the hardware manufacturer Apple unveiled the latest generation of iPhone devices. In addition to the iPhone 12, which represented a continuous further development of the iPhone 11 including 5G capabilities, there was also a small surprise. With the iPhone 12 mini, Apple presented a much more compact version of the iPhone 12, which has mainly external differences. Inside, for example, there is also an A14 Bionic Chip.

iPhone 12 mini: slower charging speed with MagSafe

But there seem to be other differences that are not directly on every data sheet of said smartphones. An official support document for the iPhone 12 shows that the new MagSafes can only be charged with a maximum of 12 watts. For comparison: the iPhone 12, including its big brothers, reaches 15 watts. It remains to be seen to what extent this will ultimately express itself in the charging speed of the devices.

However, this isn’t the only limitation Apple claims. In general, it is true for the iPhone 12 series that the performance of the MagSafe adapter is also dependent on other factors. This includes, for example, temperature and system activity. This could even reduce the power of the MagSafe adapter when used with the iPhone 12 mini at 7.5 watts. For example, if other accessories such as wired EarPods are used, this value could be reached quickly, which affects the charging time.
