The Blues legend made a shocking return to the squad last week when he was included on Frank Lampard’s 25-man Premier League roster
Petr Cech was doing better in training than other Chelsea goalkeepers before Edouard Mendy arrived, according to former Blues goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
Cech, who retired in 2019, was a shocking inclusion in Chelsea’s 25-man Premier League squad when it was announced last week.
The 38-year-old was the fourth goalkeeper on the team, along with Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero.
Prior to Mendy’s arrival from Rennes, however, Schwarzer said Cech had overtaken Kepa and Caballero in training the Blues.
“From my understanding, he was better than Chelsea goalkeepers, but that was before Mendy came to the club,” Schwarzer said. Optus Sport. “He was training and training better than Chelsea goalkeepers. “
Cech retired at the end of the 2018-19 season after spending four seasons with Arsenal. Schwarzer, who speaks to Cech regularly, said his former teammate feels so fit at the moment that he’s questioning his decision to quit the game when he did.

After a string of high-profile mistakes, Kepa was replaced as Chelsea starter by Mendy, who has been doing well since joining the team.
Schwarzer was asked a hypothetical question that is certainly on the minds of many Chelsea observers: if Mendy and Caballero were not available and coach Frank Lampard had to choose between Kepa and Cech, who would he choose?
“I think he has to play Kepa, because if he doesn’t he will kill him,” Schwarzer replied.
