CD Projekt Red provides further details on the move

For many players, the revamped postponement of Cyberpunk 2077 comes at an inopportune time. The title is no longer in the console launch window, some had already taken a vacation … The postponement hurts a little, although CD Projekt Red now again explains the reasons for the referral to a Polish corporate website.

And they are absolutely understandable: CEO Adam Kicinski, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz and SVP Business Development Michal Nowakowski say that the first impression is very important and the renewed postponement could improve it significantly. Also from an economic point of view there is an advantage in not releasing the game until December; but then with a good first impression that supports long-term sales. “A good first impression always works in favor of long-term sales,” say the managers.

The shift this time too is reportedly not comparable to previous rounds. The title is ready for PC and next-gen consoles and is all about finishing. However, it seems there is still a need for optimization on the current console generation. In the meantime, you are sure you have something unique in hand and that the postponement, however painful the decision may have been, will help you.

You don’t expect many cancellations for pre-orders. The biggest danger here is in fact the players who have taken vacation. But one way or another they want the game and at least CD Projekt Red owes them an apology. Apart from those affected, the referral is probably not to be evaluated as a heart operation and therefore is not urgent.

The selling price has also been cut: CD Projekt Red sees Cyberpunk 2077 (buy now 58,19 €) as a premium title and the price even without extras as justified. Due to the postponement, however, marketing will stumble once again and the costs will go beyond the original planning. But this is not seen as problematic. Overall, the feedback on the game has been very good among testers so far. The game expansions should appear as expected due to the postponement, which would then be confirmed again. Internally, some personnel changes in the technical area should also be made – perhaps an indication that the game – as mentioned above – is not yet running optimally on current consoles. – Starts now on December 10, 2020.
