Sidobre Clinic has just received its first Covid patients in a dedicated unit and is putting a lot of energy into ensuring the care of other patients in the best possible condition.
The context has changed a lot since the first admission to the Sidobre Polyclinic (Elsan group). While in the spring the structure had to cease all its activities very quickly or almost at the request of the ARS (Regional Health Authority), the private institution is now fully integrated into the “Covid” health care system of the south of the Tarn. Director Jean Fabre, who runs a 168-bed facility, explains: “We don’t have intensive care. That’s why we weren’t integrated into the system in March. But things have changed since then. We had to do it. one of our wings a specific Covid service that can reach up to fifteen places. We have also implemented our six continuous surveillance beds that can reach up to twelve places “.
To date (Tuesday), five “Covid” beds were already occupied either by people transferred from Chic Castres-Mazamet after a passage in intensive care, or who needed continuous surveillance or because they were welcomed. directly to the emergency room of the polyclinic.
And the director continues: “We are fortunate to be a human-scale structure that has allowed us to easily reorganize the services and especially the nursing staff. While obviously maintaining our normal medical activity”.
The same goes for the Sidobre emergency rooms, which continue their usual missions. With the possibility of carrying out live Covid tests if necessary: ”But we are not a screening center, continues the director. These tests are carried out solely for the needs of the service or before admission”.
The same goes for the surgical activity that has been slowed down with the deprogramming of the interventions: “But in a less rigid way than in March / April, the director continues. Doctors measure the risk-benefit ratio and make decisions.” In the same way, radiology activities (scanner, magnetic resonance) normally continue with the application of the new health standards recommended by the authorities of each discipline.
Starting from the summer period, the Sidobre polyclinic had been preparing for this eventuality, considering different possible organization scenarios. In particular on patient circuits: “But we are forced to adapt constantly. And our staff are really playing. They are all very responsive. And quite happy to be able to play their full role as caregiver in this health crisis.”
Julien Normand: “On good terms with the hospital”
The chair of the medical commission of the institute (CME), Dr. Julien Normand, orthopedic surgeon, recalls: “We work in complementarity with the hospital. In addition, we were received at Le Chic to match our treatment methods appropriately. Covid cases in our specialized services. But we also insist on our goal of ensuring continuity of care for all other patients. After the first wave, there was a lot of delay. We worked hard during the first wave. “was to catch up. some of this delay. Doctors took less vacation than in previous years for this. But now we have to add the deprogramming we’re doing due to the second block. ”Far beyond the headache of managing the program, Dr. Normand insists,“ Patients really need to get close to their doctor. Especially in serious pathologies such as cardiology or oncology. They shouldn’t cancel the appointments themselves. Any hospitalization is done after a Covid test. And the strict rules are applied to everyone in the facility. It is understandable that some patients are afraid of the virus. But it would be worse not to let it heal. “
