Cases of dengue in Costa Rica until October are at the highest for all of 2019

Costa Rica health officials report that as of the end of October, the number of dengue fever cases in the country exceeded the total in all of 2019.

The country counted 9,438 cases of dengue as of October 31, surpassing the total number of cases recorded last year, which ended with 9,400. The most affected regions were Huetar Caribe with 4353 cases and La Brunca with 2228 cases.

Related viruses transmitted by mosquitoes, Zika and chikungunya, circulated in smaller numbers, with 120 and 49 cases respectively.

The Ministry of Health reiterates its appeal to the population not to let their guard down and continue with the elimination of mosquito breeding sites such as tires, buckets, vases, canoes, jars, among others, as well as collaborating with our officials when they visit their fumigation home, presenting the correct identification.

Also, it is important to remember measures such as applying mosquito repellent to exposed skin, long sleeves and long pants, and the use of mosquito nets.
