The tiger involved in the massacre of a volunteer at Tampa’s Big Cat Rescue on Thursday was left “quite shaken” by the ordeal, Carole Baskin shared.
Baskin, the controversial feline rights activist, said the male tiger involved in the mauling – Kimba – was already in a fragile state prior to the attack on Candy Couser.
“Kimba was quite shaken yesterday by all the hustle and bustle and he’s already a very scary cat having come from a circus,” she explained to the Sun.
His quarantine will be in his own cage, but with a few select caretakers assigned to him and his designated cleaning tools for the next 30 days.

Volunteer Candy Couser was rushed to hospital after being bitten by the male tiger at Carole Baskin’s Big Cat Rescue Park in Tampa, Florida on Thursday morning.

On their website, Big Cat Rescue shared that Kimba was rescued along with two other tigers from a banned circus in Guatemala in 2018. Big Cat Rescue heard about tigers after reading a DailyMail.com story about a worker who was attacked by tigers at the circus in 2018.
Ponce Circus is said to have gone on the run instead of handing the tigers over to Animal Defenders International.

The tigers would finally arrive at the Big Cat Rescue in November 2019.
Big Cat Rescue shared in a Facebook post on Thursday where Kimba “ grabbed her (Couser’s) arm and nearly ripped it off her shoulder ” when she was feeding the big cat and realized that it wasn’t in a section he normally stayed in.
The staff rushed to the woman as she was being mauled and Kimba let go of her arm. Couser had been treated before she was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
In an update posted a few more hours on their website, Big Cat Rescue said it was their “ understanding that the CDC may require ” that Kimba be killed and tested for anger, but that it would be “ unlikely given that he’s vaccinated and Candy doesn’t want him killed for doing what comes naturally to him. ‘

Couser was mauled by the animal shortly after 8 am on Thursday, while he was making a round of food at the sanctuary.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials told Bay News 9 that Couser’s injuries are considered “serious”.
A statement from Big Cat Rescue posted on social media hours after the attack explained that Couser was preparing to feed a male tiger named Kimba when he “ saw that he was locked away in a section away from where he was usually fed and he contacted the coordinator via radio to find out why.
The elderly volunteer then reached for Kimba’s arm in the cage to open a locked tunnel door before the predator pounced on.
‘[At that moment] Kimba grabbed Couser’s arm and nearly tore him off his shoulder. Jane [the coordinator] heard the commotion and came running. Kimba dropped her grip and Couser fell off the side of the tunnel.

Another employee held Couser’s armpit to stop the bleeding while an ambulance was called.
Others packed Couser’s arm in ice packs to try to save him before the doctors arrived at the park.
Couser was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she is currently undergoing surgery.
During his run to the medical center, Couser was “still conscious and insisted he didn’t want Kimba Tiger harmed for this mistake.”
Baskin – who recently appeared in Dancing With The Stars – was present at Big Cat Rescue at the time of the accident.
Coincidentally, the incident occurred on the same day that Baskin’s Big Cat Public Safety Act – a bill to ban the private ownership of big cats – was passed by the House.

Baskin, 59, was brought to prominence earlier this year after appearing when she appeared in the hit Netflix documentary “Tiger King” with Joe Exotic.
The series focused on Exotic’s bizarre life, his Oklahoma zoo, and his bitter feud with Baskin, a cat rights activist.
A conductor at the Exotic zoo, Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, was also bitten by a tiger.
The employee, Kelci ‘Saff’ Saffery, was ripped off his arm during the gruesome attack.

Exotic, real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, a one-year sentence of 22 years for attempting to hire a hitman to kill Baskin.
He vehemently denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, Baskin has also dismissed rumors that he is responsible for killing her ex-husband, Don Lewis.
Lewis passed away in August 1997 and has not been seen since. Some fans have wildly speculated that Baskin fed Lewis the tigers at Big Cat Rescue Park.
