At the forefront of the Covid-19 epidemic, healthcare workers will not be the first to be vaccinated, with the exception of at-risk staff in nursing homes. Their turn will come in a second phase “as more doses become available” according to the High Authority for Health, which on Monday revealed its recommendations on the vaccination strategy in France. But according to a study conducted by Public Health France on accepting a vaccine against Covid-19, caregivers aren’t necessarily very likely to get vaccinated.
A young population
The rate of flu vaccination each year is a very good indicator among caregivers. Last year? in health facilities, vaccination coverage was only 35%. It varies by profession: 67% of doctors, just under 40% of nurses and 20% of nursing assistants.
“Those who do not get vaccinated did not understand that it was not only protection for them but also protection for others. A vaccine too fast?
When asked why, unvaccinated caregivers question the vaccine’s effectiveness and fear side effects. For Thierry Amouroux, spokesman for the national union of nurses, the speed with which vaccines against Covid have been developed does not help much. “We have no scientific data published by the various labs. We are waiting to see what it is,” he says.
To ensure better vaccination coverage among caregivers, all specialists are recommending greater transparency from pharmaceutical laboratories in the coming weeks.
