The camera maker Canon is also making two of its EF lenses available as RF versions. The RF 50mm F1.8 STM and RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lenses are now compatible with Canon’s EOS-R system cameras. According to the manufacturer, these include the recently launched EOS R5 and R6 as well as the EOS R and RP.
RF 50mm F1.8 STM
Canon calls the RF 50mm F1.8 STM a “nifty-fifty lens” because it is extremely versatile. According to the manufacturer, the aspherical lens is suitable for taking pictures with very little light. Canon promises good image quality and exact separation between subject and background even at the widest aperture. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters and allows photographers to get 5cm closer to a subject than the EF version of the 50mm F1.8 STM.
The same as the EF 50mm F1.8 STM is the 7-blade iris diaphragm according to the manufacturer. It should provide a nice bokeh effect. Additionally, the RF 50mm F1.8 STM features the Super Spectra coating, which should allow for precise color balance as well as minimizing lens flare and stray light.

RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM
Compared to the EF version, the F4L IS USM RF 70-200mm is smaller according to Canon. It is 11.9 inches long and weighs 695 grams. The close-up limit of the telephoto zoom has also been reduced from 1 to 0.6 meters. Thanks to the 9-blade iris diaphragm and constant F4 aperture, the lens should provide a beautiful bokeh effect. The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lens has a 5-level optical image stabilizer and should therefore ensure good quality images even without a tripod.
The RF 50mm F1.8 STM will be available from December 3rd at a recommended price of CHF 219. The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM will be available from December 10th. Canon specifies an MSRP of 1729 francs.
Canon holds a Guinness world record. The camera and printer manufacturer has put the world’s longest digital photo on paper. It took about 16 hours to print.
