In Canada, the first time a person was infected with the H1N2 virus, a rare form of swine flu. The case occurred in the western province of Alberta in mid-October, according to Canadian health authorities.
There is currently “no increased risk” for the population, local authorities said yesterday. There are no signs that the virus has spread.
The patient had mild flu-like symptoms and quickly recovered from the disease, authorities said. Since 2005, only 27 infections with the H1N2 virus have been reported worldwide.
H1N1 swine flu virus infections are more common. According to health experts, the H1N2 virus is transmitted through contact with infected pigs.
