BVB without Favre since the summer? Possible successors already mentioned!

The Dortmund manager’s criticisms are simply not abating. The question is will he stay with BVB beyond the summer? In the meantime, possible successor candidates have even been nominated.

According to a report by “Sport Bild”, Borussia Dortmund are not currently struggling with an extension of the contract of manager Lucien Favre, which will expire in 2021, but are exploring the market for a possible successor for the Swiss. At the moment, therefore, an extension of the contract with the 62-year-old is rather unlikely.

The report names three coach candidates rumored to already be under discussion within BVB: Gladbach manager Marco Rose is one of them, as is Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann. The third candidate is the coach of Red Bull Salzburg: Jesse Marsch.

But how realistic is it that Favre will leave Dortmund after the current season and take over from one of these top three coaches?

The Favre case

The current BVB coach is undoubtedly one of the greatest experts in the league. However, he hasn’t been able to win the championship or DFB Cup with Dortmund since he started in 2018. With an average of over two points per game, he’s the best value a Dortmund manager has ever achieved, but he c ‘is always a criticism of him. Whether an extension is truly out of the question is far from certain.

What Speaks Against Favre’s Departure: It wasn’t until mid-October that BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke was behind his coach when he appeared in the “Current Sports Studio”. “We are very happy with the work and it has never been available,” Watzke said at the time. “Lucien has the best points average of all the coaches. Last time we won the league, Bayern were not at this level. You could be champion with 78 or 80 points. We are looking to get back there. A contract extension. it essentially depends on it. on what Lucien wants. We’ll wait and sit together in winter or spring. There’s no trend yet. “

Possible successors

The situation is far from clear with the possible successors named: Rose is under contract with Borussia from Mönchengladbach until 2022 and has a good reputation in the club. A lot seems to be possible with Gladbach over the next few years, perhaps even a title. Why should he switch to the other Borussia?

The same goes for Julian Nagelsmann. With RB Leipzig he is currently at the top of the Bundesliga standings and recently played great with his team in the Champions League. Last season he even reached the semi-finals of the premier class with RB. The chances of a title currently appear to be greater with Leipzig than with Dortmund. The contract with RB is also valid until 2023. And Leipzig will do a hell of a lot and let their top manager voluntarily transfer to their direct competitor in the summer.

Salzburg also do not want to let their manager go

The situation in the Marsch case should be slightly different. The American is still under contract in Salzburg until 2022, but – like so many professional coaches – he is extremely ambitious. Moving to the Bundesliga would be a big next step for him. However, his current club has made it clear in the past that they would be reluctant to let him go. Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund said last June: “Jesse has a long-term contract, the decision is clearly ours.” This sentence makes the club’s position quite clear.

Favre goes away? And does one of the three nominees come for this? These questions cannot yet be definitively resolved.

The only thing certain is that the currently loud rumors of a Dortmund manager change next summer will only be quieter with BVB’s fast and sporty successes. And for this, on Wednesday evening Favre and his team must show their performance in the Champions League (from 21 in live ticker on t-online): because a success against Zenit St. Petersburg is after the initial defeat in the competition against Lazio ( 1: 3) urgently needed.
