buy them for bass and volume, but pay attention to the design! (Video)

Today it is difficult to innovate in the area wireless headphones, especially since everyone chooses to copy Apple AirPods or some daredevil makes their way with headphones that come out of the ear, with complex mechanisms. Samsung decided to follow its inspiration and took a risk with the headphones “Beans”, as they have long been nicknamed.

They are officially called Samsung Galaxy Buds Live and I propose … something else. To have noise cancellation, greater autonomy and boxes for transport and loading. After a month of playing, listening to music and answering calls, I can tell you if it’s worth it. The product is around 600 lei now and debuted in August with the Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S7.

Design

The headphones come with a standard box “engagement ring”, which weighs 42.2 grams and helps them load, but also protects them. It is compact and easy to keep in your pocket and is available in the same shades as the headphones: white, black and Mystic Bronze. Each helmet weighs 5.6 grams and looks like a bean type Red beans. Samsung went through hundreds of prototypes to get here. The first contact with them will make you wonder how shiny they are and how fluid their shape is.

As an industrial design it is a special product, an attempt to do something new. In terms of ergonomics, they are … weirdand the first temptation is to put them wrong in the ear. In fact they must be inserted with the bulbous side as a “Peak” in the ear and with the metal contacts facing out. It is also a problem for those with a small ear hole, these headphones do not fit.

The device looks elegant in the ear, like a pair of luxury earrings and comes with IPX2 certification for water resistance. The advantage over other headphones is that they do not invade the ear with a plug that goes to the eardrum. Touch control is easy on the surface of the headset and is quite responsive.

Sound

The headphones have 12mm drivers, technology AKG and noise filters ANC, using the 3 microphones on board: two classic and one that collects the sound through the vibrations transmitted through the jaw. How did it sound to me? The volume is the highest on the market, on par with FreeBuds 3, perhaps even beyond. There is a lot of sound outside, so those around you will hear what you are hearing. The bass, on the other hand, is the best on the market, unrivaled in the TWS headset segment with ANC, from everything I have tested.

There are also settings for the ANC to hear voices, horns and other vital sounds around. Other than the bass and treble, the sounds are good, the vocals are warm, and I didn’t experience any distortion. You can also control Bixby and Spotify from these headphones. Calls were heard very clearly, without any noise and the microphones did a great job.

Autonomy

Each headset delivers around 6 hours of autonomy and it even gives what it says on paper. With that shipping and charging box you get to 21 hours and after 5 minutes of charging you have an hour of use. The box is charged via USB-C and we also get a cable in the box. Upload that box from your PC in about 2 hours.

Technology / coupling / software

The headset connects to the phone, be it an iPhone or Android terminal via Bluetooth 5.0. We also have a file dedicated application on iOS and Android. On Samsung phones you have Galaxy Wear where you manage everything. The application includes a file equalizer, with adjustments for treble, voice, bass, dynamic sound or normal sound, according to preferences. Compared to other equalizers, which are just like the name, you really feel the differences here. You’ve chosen Treble and run out of bass, and if you’ve chosen Bass then it covers everything else.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live app

You can also update the firmware in the application, but also customize the touches of the headphones, associating them with functions such as play / pause / next song / virtual assistant / Spotify. There is also the option to turn ANC on or off and we also have a feature that will eliminate that unpleasant pressure in the ears caused by ANC. Also in this app we have a function Find my earphones.

Pairing happens quickly, practically as soon as you open the box, the headphones have been detected by the phone. On the Samsung Galaxy S10 + phone used in the Galaxy Wear application, we also found a special Gaming Mode feature, which reduces the latency of games so there are no lag. There is also a feature that allows you to read your notifications aloud.

Conclusion:

Pros:

  • very loud volume
  • super low
  • perfect microphones
  • great calls
  • efficient cancellation of background noise
  • useful application with equalization
  • good autonomy with that transport box
  • captivating and original design

Versus:

  • not for all ear shapes and sizes
  • being shiny they get dirty easily
  • autonomy sub Galaxy Buds Plus
  • IPX2 certification only
  • high starting price (now okay)

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live I rank first of everything I have tried in the TWS ANC area in two respects: volume is Bass. Ergonomics is mostly about the shape of your hard ear and your adaptability to something new. Autonomy is fine, but not if you are referring to Huawei FreeBuds Pro or Galaxy Buds Plus. As a glance, from the outside you will intrigue the world that will think you have the most beautiful earrings in your ear. A successful experiment from Samsung.
