Blessing Chitapa was crowned the winner of The Voice UK.
The 18-year-old singer from Zimbabwe was named the winner during Saturday’s episode of the ITV talent contest.
He won the competition of Jonny Brooks, coached by Sir Tom Jones, in the final.
Chitapa, who lives in Dudley in the West Midlands, sang Robbie Williams’ Angels and James Bay’s Hold Back The River in the final.
The last song was a duet with his mentor Olly Murs.
A tearful Chitapa said she is “so happy to have sung on this stage”.
“It was an honor and a privilege of mine and it was unforgettable,” he added.
After singing Angels, Murs said, “You’re just a phenomenal talent and I’m getting excited here too after that performance.”
Early in the series, Murs became Chitapa’s mentor after being the only judge to turn the chair during his audition.
Chitapa said winning the competition “is my greatest achievement”.
“I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and I’m so intrigued to see what the future holds,” she added.
Chitapa recorded Angels as a single, available for download and streaming.
Filming on The Voice was halted earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The program returned to television screens in October after a seven-month hiatus.
Chitapa was chosen as the winner by the program’s virtual audience, who voted for her to win.
