Both WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders and challenger Martin Murray have made weight and confirmed their title fight this coming Friday at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs) hit the scales at 167.3 pounds, with Murray (39-5-1, 17 KOs) reading slightly higher at 167.4 pounds, bringing both safely under the limit championship of 168 lbs.

Presenting the weight coverage were Chris Lloyd and former middleweight world champion Darren Barker, who has spent the majority of his career running alongside fellow countryman Murray.

Barker admitted during the post-weight staredown between champion and challenger that we may be on the verge of witnessing the 38-year-old’s latest professional fight, regardless of the outcome.

“I don’t think he would still go today if he won the belt in one of those other world title fights,” said Barker of Murray, who was unlucky to draw with Felix Sturm in 2011 and lose on cards to Sergio Martinez in 2013. , before being stopped by Gennadiy Golovkin and losing to Arthur Abraham by very good margins in 2015.

“He was so unfortunate with some of these challenges, and what a way out it would have been if he had managed to win.

“And if he somehow beats Saunders, I think he will retire on the spot.

“He has to work from start to finish and go through the gears if he wants to make it. He will leave absolutely everything there.”

Undefeated as a pro and heavy favorite, Saunders had previously commented that he wanted to defend his title against the man from Saint Helens, whose long career he highly respects. However, Saunders is also confident that he will retire it once and for all on December 4th.

In the main support bout, James Tennyson and Josh O’Reilly look to muscle in a burgeoning light scene in their eliminator for the WBA title.

Tennyson weighed 134.8 pounds, heavier than the undefeated Canadian at 134.3 pounds. Both Lloyd and Barker were. confident Welshman Tennyson will come even much heavier on the fight night itself.

Elsewhere on paper, Shannon Courtenay (117.9 lbs) weighed two lbs heavier than Dorota Norek (115.9 lbs) for their eight rounder of bantamweight as Courtenay tries to bounce back from her Fight Camp defeat against Rachel Ball, while both Zach Parker (167 lbs)) and Cesar Nunez (167.7 lbs) made weight for their WBO International super-middle battle.

Lerrone Richards (172 lb) vs Timo Laine (171.6 lb) is in what will be an eight-round catchweight bout as new undefeated Matchroom signing Richards looks to start his new deal in style, and another catchweight just above super-middle pits Lewis Edmondson (171.2 lb) versus John Telford (170.5 lb) while Donte Dixon (127.6) and Angelo Dragone (127.9) open the show.
