There is no question that in order for a game’s immersion to be complete, the soundtrack of the work must match and function in sync with the rest of the experience. Studio CD Projekt Red has already shown that they know very well how to achieve such harmony of visual and sound elements with The Witcher games – the Wild Hunt soundtrack is simply fantastic from start to finish, however.
In recent years, the studio has left the “comfort” of the medieval world and accepted the challenge of taking us on a journey into the future with Cyberpunk 2077. Marcin Przybyłowicz, musical director of The Witcher 3, plays the same role in the latest CD. Projekt, along with composer PT Adamczyk, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s development.

In an exclusive interview with IGN Brasil, Adamczyk talks about the impact of the soundtrack on the player experience, behind the scenes of the creative process and more. “I would say that for a story-driven RPG, the soundtrack is an essential part of the whole experience. It highlights the key moments, provides an emotional tendency, and often directs the player and makes him feel like a ***!” composer.
For him, the importance of the soundtrack is also reinforced by the first-person perspective of Cyberpunk 2077. “We can’t rely on V’s facial expressions to know how the character feels at any given moment, and our cutscenes are anything but. be traditional: these two things make music a vital part of the story. “
It’s worth noting that the game’s soundtrack is now available on Spotify for anyone who wants to enjoy it. Listening to the six songs available on the platform, I felt closer to the futuristic universe of the game. Images of the neon city filled with neon, cars and buildings soon flashed through my mind. Even without playing, I can already see the synergy between the media – I can’t wait to see the full result.
Though the songs’ electronic beats and futuristic flair are evident in every second, Adamczyk explains that the team sought less traditional inspirations for cyberpunk works. “Many of the genres that inspired us, such as industrial, techno, rave, IDM and hip-hop, don’t easily fit our narrative needs, so we had to use creativity and think of ways to follow the sentiment, plot and features like that and then try to manipulate them to fit the context of the game. It was really fun! “
He also mentions how the team was concerned with creating something that respected the tabletop RPG that inspires the game, Cyberpunk 2020. “The game is based on the work of Mike Pondsmith, which offers a world like no other, thus creating a typical ‘ track ‘sonic cyberpunk’ wouldn’t do it justice. This is a unique universe, with such a unique narrative, so we had to compose something that matched all of this. “
An important point is that, in addition to instrumental songs, the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack features collaborations with real artists, such as Run the Jewels, Refused, Grimes, A $ AP Rocky, Gazelle Twin, Ilan Rubin, Richard Devine, Nina Kraviz, Deadly Hunta, Rat Boy and Tina Guo. Additionally, CD Projekt has created songs for Samurai, a fictional band in the game led by Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves) – here, the soundtrack takes the opportunity to save good old rock.
“Marcin’s idea of referring to the 90s on the track was very refreshing and inspiring; it gave us an interesting starting point and seems to be uncharted territory in the world of composition,” adds Adamczyk, who also speaks on how the creation of the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack was organic. “After immersing yourself in the story and the scenery, you feel guided. I barely remember a moment when I felt some kind of creative block. What I heard most was that the track” was written by itself. “
On teamwork, especially Marcin Przybyłowicz’s leadership, Adamczyk says he has “unprecedented freedom for a AAA game”. He adds: “Marcin’s feedback was essential, especially in the beginning. Over time, as our list of information grew and we learned more about the game and how we would mark it, I trusted Marcin’s opinion in the moments that I found Adam. [Badowski, diretor do jogo] was also present in the process; we had regular evaluations with him and his opinion and guidance helped us find the right path and feel confident. In the end, it was a team effort and, as a team, I think we have really achieved something special. “
We will be able to embark for Night City and explore the future of Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10, the date set for the game’s release on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC.
