BBC appoints former judge to investigate Lady Di interview.

The BBC said Wednesday 18-N that it had appointed a former judge to conduct an investigation into how the station got a famous 1995 interview with the late Princess Diana after her brother said she was tricked into involving him.

This month, his brother Charles Spencer said the BBC did not apologize for what it said were fake documents and “other hoaxes” that led him to introduce Diana to journalist Martin Bashir.

During the interview with Bashir, watched by over 20 million viewers in Britain, Diana shocked the country by admitting an affair and offering intimate details of her failed marriage to the heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

BBC Chief Executive Tim Davie said the broadcaster was determined to get to the truth about Spencer’s claims.

“This is an important investigation that I will begin immediately,” said John Dyson, the former Supreme Court judge in charge of leading the investigation. “I’ll make sure it’s complete and fair.”

Spencer says that Bashir told himself and his sister a number of things, such as that Diana’s communications were being intercepted by the security services and that two advisors were receiving money for providing information about her. Bashir provided false bank statements in support of the allegation, Spencer reported.

Others involved in the making of the program also came forward claiming that the BBC had hidden the crime.

Bashir has not made any public comment to the media and the BBC says the reporter, who became world famous for interviewing Diana and is currently the corporation’s religious affairs correspondent, is currently on sick leave, recovering from a heart surgery and after contracting the coronavirus.

The BBC said its investigation would look at five topics, such as the steps the BBC and Bashir took to obtain the interview, including simulated bank statements, alleged royal house employee payments and other issues recently raised by Spencer.
