Reportedly, Bail Bloc, a group of online activists, is attempting to raise money through cryptocurrency extraction – in order to help free people from pre-trial US incarceration. immigration and customs (ICE).
ICE is a United States police agency at the federal level and has the task of "enforcing immigration laws" in the country. The ICE "also investigates criminal and terrorist activities of foreign citizens resident in the United States".
On November 15th, the Twitter user Maya Binyam (@MayaBinyam), who is the co-founder of Bail Bloc, noted that it was exactly one year from his initiative to help inmates be launched.

Binyam explained that Bail Bloc used the consensual users' computer resources to "free people from pre-trial detention" and that Bail Block 2.0 was launched – in order to "use computational power to drive people away from detention." ; ICE ".
30% increase in arrests

Bail Bloc is among many other groups of international activists who are trying to help people out of ICE detention centers. However, the approach of Bail Bloc seems to be a bit unique as it has launched an app that uses a small amount of computing power of people to extract the privacy-oriented digital currency, XMR.
Donations of computer power
Users can choose to donate between 10% and 50% of processing resources via the app to extract XMR. As explained on the official website of Bail Bloc:
At the end of each month, we exchange the Monero with US dollars and donate the proceeds to one of the bail funds in the national network of rolling security funds. Bail Bloc is currently mining Monero for the Immigrant Bail Fund in New Haven, Connecticut, and from November 2017 to November 2018 he has extracted Monero for the Bronx Freedom Fund.
In addition, 100% of the XMR generated by mining through the Bail Bloc app is donated to the Immigrant Bail Fund. Money is therefore reportedly used to "post a link for people held in Ice, with immediate effect".
