The reason for this is that Epic Games changed the payment system in the game so that no fees were paid to Apple.

  • The “Fortnite” app has no longer been available in the App Store since August.

  • Now graphics card maker Nvidia has announced that iPhone owners will soon be able to play “Fortnite” on their mobile devices again.

  • This should be possible with the Geforce Now streaming service.

  • In the future, players will be able to play Fortnite using the Safari browser.

In August, Apple launched the “Fortnite” app from the App Store in a dispute with Epic Games’ “Fortnite” developers. Since then, the popular online game on the iPhone can no longer be installed or updated. Although Epic Games also fought in court for the return of “Fortnite” to the App Store, all efforts were unsuccessful. But now there seems to be a light on the horizon for “Fortnite” fans with iPhone.

As the graphics card maker Nvidia has announced, it will soon enable “Fortnite” players to be able to play mobile games on the iPhone again. This should be possible thanks to the company’s Geforce Now service. It is a game streaming service that can be accessed through the web browser.

Touch operation via the browser

This would make it possible to call up “Fortnite” via the iPhone’s Safari browser and thus avoid diversion via the App Store. Usually, Geforce is designed for streaming games to PC. This has the advantage that the game does not have to be installed on the computer itself.

Until now, streaming games like “Fortnite” to the iPhone required a gamepad to work. Now, however, Nvidia has announced that in the future it will be possible to play “Fortnite” using touch controls via the Safari browser. The goal is to offer the millions of mobile “Fortnite” players an experience as similar as possible to the previous “Fortnite” app.

According to the BBC, this announcement from Nvidia is not entirely based on altruistic motives. Apple and Nvidia have already clashed in the past when the tech giant blocked the launch of game streaming apps from companies like Nvidia, Google Stadia or Xbox. Now Nvidia has found a backdoor in this regulation with browser streaming.

How will Apple react?

This worries Omdia game analyst George Jijiashvili. “Geforce Now is a temporary solution for iOS users, but I think Apple will react soon. This could mean that the service will be completely blocked or at least the streaming quality will be greatly reduced, “says Jijiashvili.

Nvidia isn’t the only company working on a browser solution for streaming games. Google has also confirmed that it would like to run its new Stadia streaming service on iOS devices via a web browser in the future. How Apple will react is not yet known.
