Aveyron: The flu campaign has been very effective

Pharmacists have sold their stock of vaccines and are awaiting restocking. Vaccination coverage has increased for them.

If obviously the issue of the Covid vaccine is on everyone’s mind, obviously also the Aveyronnais, as at the national level, have been sensitized on the importance of protecting themselves from the flu. A month after the start of the vaccination campaign, Pierre-Marie Vayssettes, president of the Syndicate of Pharmacists of Aveyron, fails to overcome it. “In a week I have had as many vaccinations as in a normal month, he says. The stocks are exhausted, we are waiting for the replenishment”.

And while many vaccines have been destroyed in late winter in recent years, this time it won’t. “People have well understood the interest of vaccinating against the flu in relation to the Covid context, resumes the pharmacist. They felt it was not the time to take it with already saturated health services due to Covid.”

Priority people were very sensitive to the vaccination campaign

This year, priority was given, even more than usual, to people at risk (over 65, health workers and patients suffering from certain diseases). “I think it can be said that vaccination coverage has been improved. On the other hand, some people who do not fit into the priority eligible population and who had got into the habit of getting vaccinated anyway could not. Due to lack of sufficient supplies,” he explains. Pierre-Marie Vayssettes. Refueling is ongoing and should therefore work in the coming weeks.

Less flu, but also nasopharyngitis and gastroenteritis

Meanwhile, pharmacists note a marked decrease in the number of patients who come for treatment for the flu, but also for other viral diseases. “For the moment we have fewer classic pathologies, continues the president of the pharmacists’ union. It seems what happened during the winter in the southern hemisphere (this summer with us, ed) where it has had little influence. We also have less nasopharyngitis and gastroenteritis. But beware, we are only at the beginning of winter. Epidemics do not necessarily occur only in November “.

One of the rational explanations for the decline in the number of diseases is obviously the application of the general use of masks, but also of barrier gestures, which are increasingly placed also in the private sector, which seems to reduce the risk of transmission of certain viruses. .
