  • Andrej Rublew (ATP 8) wins his last match at the ATP Finals against Dominic Thiem (ATP 3) 6: 2, 7: 5.
  • Thiem, who had already been confirmed semifinalist, did not play with the ultimate consequence.
  • Rafael Nadal (ATP 2) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 6) will negotiate the 2nd ticket of the semi-final in the London group on Thursday evening starting at 21:00.

Had there been a spectator in the London arena, Dominic Thiem could have been accused of acting too relaxed and unmotivated in the first set of his last group match against Andrei Rublew.

Why should a show be offered even for otherwise expensive tickets. But as is known, spectators are not allowed to participate in the ATP finals and Thiem had secured his ticket to the semi-final before the match. Therefore, the defeat in 2 sets in the end no longer played any role.

Bolt from the blue from Rublew

The Austrian received 2 breaks at the start and lost the first set after just 25 minutes without singing 2: 6.

Rublew, on the other hand, was able to play freely, his tournament outside was already certain before the game. The Russian’s serve was particularly impressive: 89% of his serves in the first set did not return.

Thiem a little better and yet too weak

In the second set Rublew soon resumed his opponent’s service, taking the lead 2-1. Thiem was able to compensate for the sentence later and found something better in the game. However, the 27-year-old was far from his best form and received the decisive break with a score of 5: 5. Rublew deservedly decided the match 6: 2, 7: 5 after 74 minutes.
