An old known anti-inflammatory used for pain will now be tested to treat covid-19. This is aspirin, which will be part of a study in the United Kingdom dedicated to testing the effect of already existing drugs in patients with coronavirus.
The idea of the study is to investigate whether aspirin can help reduce the risk of blood clots, which has been commonly seen with patients with Sars-CoV-2 disease.

According to the researchers involved in the test, the rationale for believing that aspirin may be useful is that it is known to be a blood thinner. Plus, it’s safe, inexpensive, and widely available.
The study in the UK will involve at least 2,000 randomly selected patients who are expected to receive 150 milligrams of the drug per day. In addition to aspirin, other drugs already commonly used in covid-19 cases will follow.
At the end of the research, the data of these patients will be compared with those of at least 2,000 other patients who receive conventional care and have not received aspirin.
