“Artificial Pancreas Dashboard” can help standardize closed-loop hybrid reports

[ad_1]

A standardized “Artificial Pancreas (AP) Dashboard” should provide an easy-to-use single-page hybrid closed-loop (HCL) reporting system for diabetic patients requiring insulin. The AP Dashboard will help standardize HCL reporting similar to standardized CGM reporting and an electrocardiogram (ECG) and will likely help improve glycemic control and reduce hypoglycemia.

It is featured in the peer-reviewed journal Diabetes technology and therapy (DTT). Click here to read the article now.

The developers of the AP Dashboard concept propose a single page report consisting of seven main components. These provide detailed information and visualization of specific glucose, insulin and HCL metrics. They include glucose parameters, hypoglycemia, insulin, user experience, hyperglycemia, daily glucose profile, and detailed information.

Each main component can be divided into subcomponents. For example, glucose metrics include four variables: average glucose; standard deviation; glucose management indicator; and a visual chart showing recommended continuous glucose monitoring metrics, such as time within range, time above range, and time below range.

Recommendations also include optimal sampling duration for HCL data download and color coding for ease of viewing.

Effective use of an HCL system requires interpretation of glucose and insulin parameters and optimization of HCL settings. “

“We believe that the time has come to standardize the terminology and reporting of different HCL systems. We recommend various metrics and HCL views for standardized HCL reporting similar to an ECG. We realize this is only a starting point and we fully understand that this can and will be improved with the contribution of others “.
