Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny tested positive for coronavirus while on duty in Egypt, according to his agent.

Elneny has been away with her country and contracted the disease, which means she will have to enter a period of isolation.

The 28-year-old played Saturday against Togo in Africa Cup qualifiers.

His agent Alan Nazmy posted on Twitter: “Elneny Positive Cov19 will be cured soon”.

It means Elneny will likely miss Arsenal’s trip to Leeds on Sunday, as well as the Europa League clash at Molde next week.

The Gunners then hosted Wolves in the Premier League before taking on Rapid Vienna to the Emirates. The first derby of the season in North London is away to Tottenham, probably on 6 December.

Elneny’s international teammate Mohamed Salah also caught Covid-19 while in Egypt.

Salah is currently in quarantine as he waits to find out when he will be allowed to return to Merseyside.

The head of the Covid-19 committee of the Egyptian Ministry of Health, Hossam Hosny, said: “Salah is currently in El-Gouna to complete the quarantine and on Thursday he will conduct another PCR test and I expect his result will be negative because until now, the player hasn’t shown any symptoms.

“Like any Egyptian citizen, Salah has undergone all necessary medical scans and tests which have shown that he does not suffer from any symptoms and is now following medical protocol with self-isolation.

“Liverpool are communicating with us to check on Salah, and their medical staff have decided they will go to El-Gouna.

“And Salah can return to England if the test result on Thursday is negative.”

Elneny has enjoyed a run on Arsenal squad this season after spending last season on loan at Besiktas.

He played 11 times for the Gunners in all competitions during this period under Mikel Arteta.
