AR Glass 2021: Oppo shows the new AR glasses

On the second Inno Day, Oppo unveiled a new, more subtle take on its AR glasses.

The glasses are called “AR Glass 2021” and, like the AR glasses shown a year ago, they have a technical design. It is not known if the wearable device will appear in this form and when.

Oppo relies on a new design for AR-Glass 2021: if the predecessor still looked like a Hololens, the new design is based on the form factor of sunglasses instead of a data helmet.

The device is according to Oppo almost 75 percent lighter compared to the previous model and is connected by cable to a smartphone, like the flagship of the company Oppo Find X2 Pro.

Funding for developers begins in 2021

The cable connection to the smartphone and the display technology used are based on the competing product Nreal Light, which will soon be launched in Japan after South Korea. The 0.71-inch OLED display is expected to provide a significantly better result than the latest glasses Oppo in terms of contrast, brightness and pixel density.

AR Glass 2021 also installed two cameras for spatial tracking, a TOF sensor for depth scanning and an RGB camera for photos and videos. The device is controlled via the smartphone or via Tracking of hands and fingers.

Oppo didn’t show much in terms of content: two games in the MOBA and tower defense genre, a video streaming app and applications with which you can learn English and place virtual furniture in your apartment.

Since hardware isn’t worth much without software, the electronics manufacturer is launching a funding program and competition for AR developers in 2021. At the same time, developer software will also be released.
