The Brazilian consumer protection agency will force Apple to include a charger with all of its iPhone models, as it cannot defend its latest measures. It all started when public agency Procon-SP asked Apple to prove that not including the charger would not harm the consumer. As well as explaining the true environmental benefits the decision would have.
That said, Apple responded with a repetition of the same arguments it used in the presentation of the iPhone 12: that most users already have a compatible charger and that carbon emissions would be reduced by not having to manufacture so many power supplies. An explanation that did not seem to convince Procon-SP, which published a public notice announcing that Apple has not provided sufficient evidence for its decision.

The agency believes Apple has not guaranteed that users will receive the same technical support if they use other company’s chargers. Furthermore, he doesn’t believe he has provided enough evidence that the environment will improve from this.
Apple has a complicated history with chargers. With the launch of MagSafe, it turned out that it could only be used at full power with the company’s official adapter, which must be purchased separately. This raised doubts about the excuses used for not including a charger, if you still have to buy a separate one to take advantage of MagSafe.
The public agency believes that a charger is an “essential” element to use the product, and therefore should be included. Apple now has the opportunity to appeal the decision and, if unsuccessful, will receive a fine.
