The iPhone SE has shown the way, now it follows the cheaper Apple Watch SE. Compromises are well chosen.

We will not enter the Series 3 at this point, because the device is definitely yesterday. It comes with the small, angular display, offers no ECG, no drop detection or other high-end sensors, and isn’t even offered as a standalone LTE version. Their function is limited to keeping cheap competition at bay with an indecently low starting price of 219 francs. In this role he is undoubtedly convincing, but there is nothing more.
Display and case
The Apple Watch SE is available in either 44mm or 40mm size and offers the rounded display that allows complications right in the “corners”. This display was first introduced with the Apple Watch Series 4. It shows about 30 percent more space, so the smaller 40mm version is also suitable for women; because until Series 3, the smaller version looked like a children’s watch that couldn’t be taken seriously on any wrist.
The resolution is the same as the Series 6, but with one big difference: while the Series 6 constantly displays the dial (“Always On”), with the Apple Watch SE it is activated only by turning the wrist.

I’m not sure the lack of an always-on display is a drawback. Because in no time you can master it when it comes to activating the display of the Apple Watch SE with an ultra minimalist hand movement. Conversely, I had to switch the Series 6 to theater mode a few times when the display bothered me in the dimly lit home theater.
The Apple Watch SE is only offered in an aluminum case; versions in stainless steel or even titanium are reserved for Series 6. My experiences with the stainless steel version have not only been positive because the noble finish has been covered with micro-scratches after a short time and despite careful treatment, while the version aluminum looked new even after a year. On the other hand, the stainless steel and titanium models are protected by a sapphire crystal that you can only deliberately scratch with a diamond.
