As expected, the iPhone 12 Pro Max scored above 128 points of the iPhone 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro Max received a photo score of 138 points, a zoom score of 68 points, and a video score of 113. points or is a total score of 130 points.

This makes the iPhone 12 Pro Max the new fourth best camera smartphone in the DxOMark rating, behind the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro.

Mi 10 Ultra and P40 Pro may have higher overall scores, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s photo score is better than both. The Mi 10 Ultra has only 136 points for photos, the P40 Pro has 137. Only the Mate 40 Pro with 140 points has a higher score for photos.

This means that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is currently the second best smartphone with a photo camera according to DxO standards.

To remember, the The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger 1.7µm 12MP f / 1.6 camera which is 47% larger than the main camera of the iPhone 12 Pro. It also has image shift sensor stabilization instead of traditional moving optical lens. Apple also points out that it uses a better zoom camera, with zoom up to 2.5x and OIS.

DxO praised Apple’s FlagShip device for its fast and accurate autofocus, accurate exposure, warm and pleasant white balance in low light conditions, detail in low light conditions, wide dynamic range in videos, effective stabilization and even more.

The cons are minimal. DxO shared that it has limited dynamic range in photos and noise is visible, especially in low light. Colors can also look unnatural in HDR scenes. It also lacks a more powerful zoom capability in comparison.

But overall, the iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn’t disappoint.
