Specialists discovered that a bug in the Messenger application, one of those on Facebook, allowed not only social networks to listen to you, but anyone who knew how to exploit this loophole. Natalie Silvanovich, a cybersecurity researcher, found out about it and even got a reward for it. In the meantime, of course, the problem has been solved. And those debates started in 2019.
At the time, it was learned that Facebook was recording user conversations and the European Union asked for further explanation on this. The social network said that no users were affected by the recording of the conversations. But 48 EU citizens were subject to this option that Facebook announced in 2015: to be able to receive a transcript of what you discussed on Messenger. They come from 14 countries of the Union.
Under the GDPR, active since 2018, the social network was threatened with a fine of up to 4% of its annual income. In the meantime, several updates have arrived and it looks like things have been fixed. Or at least no one has noticed anything. Yet.
