Since last week, Apple has been able to order streaming music and movies, the game’s flat fee, and additional iCloud storage as a package. Let’s answer the question of when it’s worth it and where the pitfalls lurk.

Last week Apple launched its collective subscription called Apple One. This includes the music streaming service, the Apple TV + range of movies and series, the Arcade flat rate game, and a memory upgrade for iCloud.
In the US, the package includes two more offers. First, News +, the flat rate for newspapers and magazines, second Fitness +, a sports program with video that integrates with the Apple Watch. Apple also announced the latter at the September 15 event. The start is scheduled for this year, but initially only in Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.
Save a few francs
Apple’s new subscription package costs CHF 18.50 per month for individuals. This translates into savings of 7 francs compared to individual prices. The subscription is also offered in a variant for families with up to six people. Then it costs 25.50 francs a month and saves 9 francs.
The most important question is of course: is it worth it?
The answer is easy: the subscription only makes sense for people who have already subscribed to all four services: they can save a few francs a month. Those who only need part of Apple’s services remain more flexible with individual subscriptions. Because, of course, bundled subscriptions are always meant to keep users long-term.

If you want to subscribe, the easiest way to do it is on iPhone: open the settings, tap your user picture at the top. Your Apple ID overview appears, where you tap on “Subscriptions”. At the top appears “Get Apple One”, which you can use to subscribe. If the button is not there, you need to make sure the iPhone software is up to date.
When it comes to storage, things get complicated
Apple One aims to make subscriptions easier to use. In one case, however, it gets more complicated instead of easier – when you’re already paying for additional iCloud storage.
5GB is available for free for iCloud accounts, which is only enough for very modest requests. Apple therefore offers the option to reserve more storage for a monthly fee. There are three levels: for 50 GB you pay one franc per month, for 200 GB you pay three francs and for two TBs you pay ten francs.
The Apple One comes with 50GB. The question raises the question of how Apple proceeds with separate storage subscriptions and what if, for example, a user has already subscribed to more storage space than they receive with the bundle.
Apple tackles this issue at once a lot of complicated supporting documents. Distinguish between three cases:

If you get more storage space with Apple One than you previously used and paid for, the single subscription for the additional storage space will be canceled, but only after the Apple One free trial.

If both subscriptions receive the same amount of storage, they will both continue to run during the trial period. The memory upgrade is not necessary later.

The most interesting case, however, is the third: what if Abo One contains less storage space than what you’ve used and paid for so far? Then both plans continue to run and you have the storage reserves of both plans available.
It might even be easier
As complicated as it is: Apple at least offers intensive users the opportunity to access more iCloud storage reserves than before. Until now it had dropped to two terabytes (TB). Effective immediately, users have the option to expand their capacity by combining both subscriptions. The maximum is four TB, but so far it’s only available in the US. Apple One is also offered in a premier version for $ 29.95 US per month, which includes two TB of storage.
Bottom line: This is pretty complicated and it’s also a bit annoying that Apple doesn’t give discounts for the iCloud and One storage combination. In general, it would be easier if Apple had more flexible iCloud updates available. And instead of the new bundled subscription, the group could simply offer a discount to loyal customers if they have subscribed to more than one service.
