Tokyo, 8 Nov. (Jiji Press) – A case of avian flu has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Kagawa prefecture in western Japan, the prefectural government said on Sunday, marking the country’s second avian flu outbreak this year.
The virus is believed to be a highly pathogenic strain.
About 48,000 chickens raised on the farm in the city of Higashikagawa will be killed. The farm has already stopped moving the chickens and eggs.
At a separate poultry farm in Mitoyo’s Kagawa town, a case of bird flu was confirmed Thursday, the country’s first in nearly three years.
About 330,000 chickens from the Mitoyo farm were culled.
