(CNN) – Claire, a Scottish Greyhound, beat hundreds of dogs on Thursday to take home the grand prize at the 2020 National Dog Show in America.

Claire won the Best in Show award at the event, which had a slightly lower turnout this year due to covid-19. The show only featured 600 dogs instead of the usual 2,000, but Claire’s victory is no less significant for that.

“He gave a picture of the dog doing exactly what he was bred for,” said David Frei, an NBC commentator, when asked what the judges saw in Claire.

“He was built to perfection, has an active and easy gait and is graceful in the way Sir Walter Scott had in mind when he called the greyhound the most perfect creature.

Claire left Hounds’ group and defeated six other dogs who were at the top of their respective groups.

The National Dog Show, the dog show organized by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, ran for two days, November 14th and 15th. The show, which first aired on NBC in 2002, ran on Thanksgiving Day after Macy’s Parade for nearly 20 years.

Founded by the Philadelphia Kennel Club in 1879, the show has been held annually since 1933.

Like other events in 2020, no spectators were allowed this year due to the ongoing pandemic – cardboard cutouts replaced the live audience. Masks and physical distances were also rigorously applied.

This year’s show also saw three new dog breeds: the Barbet, the Belgian Shepherd Laekenois, and the Dogo Argentino, according to NBC.
