An Ethereum VR game featuring Atari and Care Bears sells plots of virtual land for $ 76,000

A large number of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been sold on various markets this year, creating tens of thousands of dollars in NFT sales. A particular platform called The Sandbox sells parcels of virtual land for thousands of dollars in the ether. The Sandbox is a virtual world that allows players to create and own blockchain-backed virtual objects in the metaverse built on the Ethereum network. On October 18, Sandbox revealed that two 6 × 6 estates had sold for 210 ether ($ 76,931) or 28 times the original price.

In the future, digital currencies will be an integral part of the online world that individuals refer to as the “Metaverse”. The Metaverse is essentially a persistent virtual space that converges with virtual reality. Current blockchain applications allow people not only to create 3D virtual spaces and objects, but also to possess them immutably.

At the end of July, news.Bitcoin.com surveyed the virtual world dubbed “Decentraland” and looked at everything that has been built since it was invoked more than four years ago. However, there is another virtual ecosystem under construction called The Sandbox. The online world created by players was the fifth largest seller in terms of NFT trading volume, according to today’s data from nonfungible.com.

The blockchain-based game Sandbox was created by startup TSB Gaming, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands. Data shows that the game has recorded a grand total of 42,420 sales worth $ 2.2 million to date. For the past 30 days, nonfungible.com has reported NFT sales worth $ 555,000.

Basically the Sandbox game leverages a voxel editor so that users can create 3D assets and develop them on plots of land that can be purchased with the project’s native SAND token. Assets created by participants can also be sold in the Sandbox marketplace for SAND. On Sunday, the project’s official Twitter account revealed that two 6 × 6 properties had been sold for 210 ETH worth over $ 76,000.

The Sandbox co-founder, Sébastien Borget, She said the two 6 × 6 properties sold were a record sale on the platform. The 6 × 6 estates were sold alongside the virtual region of the Atari theme park. Established video game maker Atari joined forces with the blockchain game in March and in detail a number of Atari favorites will be made available in the Sandbox 3D world.

Atari has quite a bit of ground in the virtual world of The Sandbox, and the region will feature some of Atari’s classic arcade games.

Additionally, Atari explained that Sandbox visitors will be able to get the game assets released by Atari. The company also announced atarichain.com and the Atari Token (ATRI) offering last week, but is unsure if ATRI will be available for use in the Sandbox game after launch.

Sandbox relies heavily on the blockchain-based virtual ecosystem, but it remains to be seen how popular the platform will become. Decentraland’s popularity has declined since the initial launch of the virtual world and the app has grown to the seventh most used NFT-based ether app in terms of NFT trading volume.

Most online virtual worlds such as Altspace-VR have no participants and it may take a while for blockchain-based VR attempts to take hold. In addition to Roblox and Minecraft, hundreds of VR and voxel-based worlds have seen lackluster adoption and only a small amount of users. However, Sandbox is adding well-known partners to the equation and could give the platform a boost.

Sandbox parent company Animoca Brands recently announced a partnership with Cloudco Entertainment, the owner, content producer and global distributor of Care Bears. In addition to Atari and Cloudco, other well-known companies such as Square Enix, Shaun the Sheep and Rollercoaster Tycoon World have also partnered with Sandbox.
