Almost a thousand patients have already been hospitalized with covid-19 in Cascavel: see profile

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cascavel, 936 people have had to be hospitalized in the city with a confirmed case of the disease. This Wednesday (4) the Municipality has released some data that reveal the profile of these hospitalizations.

Of the patients, 86.32% were hospitalized within less than 10 days of onset of symptoms, 12.18% were hospitalized between 10 and 20 days after onset of symptoms, and 1.50% were hospitalized 20 days after the onset of symptoms.

Of all the hospitalizations that occurred, 27.46% went to ICU admission. The number of patients requiring weekly ICU in the city has reached 24 and has declined in recent weeks, reaching between three and four new cases per week.

Of the patients who went to the ICU, the majority (60.31%) stayed up to 15 days in hospital, 24.9% between 16 and 30 days and 14.79% after 31 days. One patient was hospitalized for 104 days.

Of the total number of patients admitted to intensive care, 51.85% would evolve to heal and 48.15% would die. Of the 162 deaths in the municipality of Cascavel, 74% were hospitalized in intensive care and 26% remained in the ward.

The city data shows the severity of the disease among the elderly. Although the majority of cases come from young people, 73.5% of deaths come from people over the age of 60.

Therefore, young people get sick more, but people belonging to the risk group and the elderly are those who develop the severe form of the disease, which can progress to death or sequelae. In general, this happens due to the comorbidities they have such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, chronic kidney disease, neoplasms, other immunocompromised and some risk factors.

To date, 163 people have died in Cascavel due to Covid-19 and 9,733 cases have been confirmed. Currently, 29 patients are admitted to the ICU and 15 to the ward with a confirmed case. Another 33 patients are still in hospital awaiting confirmation if the case is Covid-19
