Alibaba unveiled its first smart car, made in collaboration with the state-owned Chinese carmaker SAIC. The RX5 is available for pre-order and prices start at the equivalent of $ 22,300. Deliveries will begin in August of this year, informs Go4it.ro
The vehicle is an SUV that has been worked on for two years in a 50-50 joint venture owned by Alibaba and SAIC. The two companies invested $ 160 million in the project.
The car runs a new version of the YunOS operating system developed by Alibaba, which allows the vehicle to connect to various devices and online services. The driver can pay, via the Alipay payment platform included in the infotainment system, parking, fuel or buy a coffee. The RX5’s “smart” navigation system can work without a GPS or Wi-Fi signal, according to the manufacturers.

Inside the car are mounted three LED screens, four removable 360 cameras and a smart interior rearview mirror.
Alibaba has announced that it will open the operating system so that software developers can develop applications and services for it. Interestingly, the manufacturers have decided not to include an autopilot system on the car, for safety reasons.
