Admitted to the hospital for a cardiac complication, Ortiz spent the last days of his life at the Colombia Clinic where he died in the last hours of November 12th. His death, confirmed by the Colombian Association of Actors via Twitter, was mourned by media personalities to whom he gave his talent for forty years.
He made his debut on stage accompanying theater companies in the 70s, at a time when the acting commitment was linked to political activity: he participated in productions of the La Candelaria Theater, the Free Theater of Bogotá and worked as an acting teacher for the ‘Higher Academy of Bogotá.
From this trajectory was born his most remembered role as one of the unnamed characters narrating the tragedy of Juliet, one of the disappeared in the events that happened at the Palace of Justice in November 1985. Miguel Torres’ comedy, presented at the El Local Theater, in a few blocks from the scene, it has been available to the public for more than 15 years.
Subsequently, Ortiz, like other theatrical actors, switched to film and television. He is remembered for his role in the adaptation of Santiago Gamboa’s novel, “Losing is a question of method”, directed by his friend Sergio Cabrera. Although he has alternated with supporting roles on television, he has had leading roles in the productions of the two dominant channels on Colombian television, such as RCN and Caracol: From tip to head and daughter of the Mariachi, cemented their name in the popular culture of the time.
Reports reported that his heart condition worsened on December 6. Relatives reported that Ortiz had had coronary problems before. In the following days, there was no clarity regarding his condition, as rumors suggested the actor had a photo of the coronavirus affecting his recovery, a fact that was ultimately disproved by the actor’s friends. His death, which occurred at the end of November 12, was confirmed by the Colombian Association of Actors in a medical report delivered at dawn on November 13.
