December 1st is World AIDS Day. In this time of health crisis, awareness raising needs to be reinvented.

In the province of Luxembourg, the AIDS Prevention Platform and the various actors in the field (family planning centers, PMS centers, youth center, Fédasil, Red Cross, medical centers, etc.) are therefore launching digital actions on social networks but not only. To accommodate sanitary measures, there will be no large information stands at stations or Christmas markets, etc. this year, but there will still be a distribution of red ribbons, information leaflets and condoms through small shops: bakeries, pharmacies, stationery … Video clips and animations will also be shown in some schools and centers for job seekers. asylum. In the province, the campaign is coordinated by CLPS Luxembourg (Local Center for Health Promotion).

Awareness remains important because too many people currently have little knowledge of AIDS: its ways of transmission and the means of detecting it. Furthermore, HIV-positive people continue to suffer from great discrimination.

Field workers also place great emphasis on screening. In this December, HIV and STI tests will be free in planning centers, but it is essential to make an appointment.

A fresco in Arlon

The Arlon Family Planning Center, for its part, wanted to create a visible and sustainable prevention project anchored in the public space. This is how he decided to use Street Art to achieve this and turned to the Maison des jeunes d’Arlon to create a fresco. The city of Arlon has made a wall available to Arlon’s Espace Milan.

The fresco was designed by Louis Thilmany, aka BAKO. He produced the fresco with the help of Charly Cruquenaire, animator of the MJ and four other young people: Pascal Vanmuysewinkel, Alan Closter, Mathias Pepe and Lucien D’Orazio.

BAKO opted for a “cartoon” visual. Words were disseminated throughout the work to convey the desired messages: AIDS, care, screening, solidarity but also pleasure, consent, choice, love and respect.
