After a stroke: comedian Karl Dall is dead

Karl Dall died at the age of 79. The comedian and TV presenter died of a stroke. Dalls’ career began with the group “Insterburg & Co” and ended with a role in the TV series “Rote Rosen”.

Comedian and TV presenter Karl Dall has died at the age of 79, his family announced to dpa news agency. Dall did not recover from a stroke he suffered twelve days ago.

“Quietly asleep”

“Despite the use of all the technological measures and intensive care, he fell asleep peacefully today, without having regained consciousness in advance. He is leaving behind his wife, daughter and granddaughter,” the family wrote. “He was not only a popular comedian and entertainer, but above all an exceptionally lovable and likeable person.”

Dall had taken on the role of old rock star Richie Sky on ARD’s daily series “Rote Rosen” since early November. In Lüneburg, where the soap opera is filmed, on 11 November he suffered a stroke with a cerebral hemorrhage.

Early beginnings in the 1960s

The comedian, who, like Otto Waalkes, hailed from Emden, celebrated success on stage and on television. It didn’t seem like a career like this for a long time. His parents wanted to make him a civil servant, the teacher’s son considered himself a photographer or cameraman.

After dropping out of school in grade 10, he initially worked as an apprentice typographer and kept himself afloat with odd jobs. Finally he met the singer-songwriter Ingo Insterburg, and in 1967 the humorous-anarchic group “Insterburg & Co” was born and therefore also for Dalls’ career as a comedian.

Actor, singer and king of jokes

Before “Insterburg & Co” broke up in the late 1970s, Dall had established contacts with television. He brought the “music store” with him to the screen, assisted in Rudi Carrell’s “Churning” and played in “Do you understand the fun?” Telephone jokes.

Dall has tried many things in his career, he loved to provoke and polarize. With hits such as “This record is a hit” and “Millions of women love me” he has placed himself on the charts. As an actor, he has appeared in front of the camera in numerous productions, including many comedies.

Own formats in private television

He began his career, especially in the mid-1980s, when he joined the newly formed private broadcaster RTL. There he had his format from 1985 to 1991 with “Dall-As”. In 1992 he switched to Sat. 1 and “Jux und Dallerei”, visible until 1994. In 1995 Dall returned to RTL, moderated for example “Karls Kneipe” and took part in Rudi Carrell’s show “7 Days – 7 Heads”. He was rarely seen on screen afterwards.

“I no longer believe in a new television career, but I would like to show again what I can do,” he said just before his 76th birthday. “It’s just that, aside from Dieter Hallervorden, who enviably walked out of the stupid corner, hardly any of us old comedians have that chance.”

Meanwhile, Dall had also greeted the tour stage, where he had previously been with the program “The old man wants more”. Eventually he defended them ARD-Series “Rote Rosen” but again in front of the camera.
