New York / Meissen – Meissen: will these be the most expensive sneakers of all time?

The hand-painted leather and porcelain sports shoes, produced by the famous Meissen-based manufacturer and manufacturer of sporting goods adidas, will be auctioned on 7 December by the traditional New York auction house “Sotheby’s”.

And they could reach a new record price. At least the auction house provides a price range of up to 1 million US dollars (around 830,000 euros) on its website.

Meissen boss Dr. Tillmann Blaschke (57): “In our quest for the extraordinary, we were able to work with adidas in a very special way.” And factory employee Nora Hainz (30) explains: “Adidas sole, heel, eyelets, tongue and stripes – all Meissen porcelain.”

It is hand painted with 15 of the 130 antique vase decorations. Four of the best and most experienced porcelain painters worked on the unique piece for six months.

Because Meissen strategists know that sneakers are highly sought-after collectibles with the potential to increase in value, people think beyond the auction, the proceeds of which must be donated. Hainz: “We are now considering the production of other strictly limited sports shoes with exclusive Meissen decorations.”

The Staats-Manufaktur, which has been losing millions for years, can really build on the success.

Extraordinary sneakers have recently made headlines in high-priced auctions. In the summer, for example, a pair of white trainers that a co-founder of sporting goods company Nike had handcrafted some 50 years ago was auctioned for $ 162,500.

Earlier, a pair of trainers from basketball legend Michael Jordan had brought in $ 560,000.
