Adam Lallana fully agrees with his old boss Jurgen Klopp on the “relentless” match schedule and says Liverpool will “suffer” on Saturday as a result.
The 32-year-old midfielder is expected to clash with his former club when the Reds make a trip to Lallana’s new side, Brighton, at the start of the weekend.
Liverpool only had two days to prepare for the clash at Amex Stadium, one of which will have been a day of recovery after Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to Atalanta.
Klopp continually beat up organizers and broadcast heads for the busy schedule, and Lallana understands her point.
“The amount of games you have is unstoppable and I think, you know, we are all going through a phase when there has been an increase in injuries, there are a lot of debates going on about whether we should have five substitutes in the Premier League.” Lallana said Between the lines podcast.

“The players are the ones who just ‘move on, play another game, play another game in three or four days’.
“I heard Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the other day – them [Man Utd] they were in Turkey on Wednesday [against Istanbul Basaksehir] and then they played first Saturday at Goodison Park. And I agree with him.
“I don’t understand why it has to happen when it’s easy enough not to happen, you know, give them the extra day and put it on TV the next day.
“Because the players are the ones who suffer, you know, they are the ones who seem to be thrown every three or four days.”

It was an extremely interesting start to the season for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
They started their title defense with a shaky start as they beat a seven-goal thriller against Leeds, before going on to concede seven in a hammering from Aston Villa.
Virgil van Dijk’s season ended with injury in the 2-2 draw at Everton, leaving the title favorites far less confident in defense, especially with Alisson worries.

Liverpool are already facing an ongoing injury crisis with several players sidelined and others quitting while others are returning.
Naby Keita was the latest star to limp out last weekend, although Lallana’s best friend and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson should be available to take on his old friend.
Klopp launched a loud voice on the match calendar in the aftermath of Atalanta’s defeat, where he had rested several players to meet the demands.

And Lallana believes the situation has been exacerbated by the lack of an adequate break for players in the off-season due to Covid-19.
Speaking of the brief turnaround between matches, he said: “Especially during this pandemic which brings further pressure, I don’t think that’s right, but who am I to say?
“It’s another talking point, no, but we’ve seen an increase in injuries and it’s no coincidence that it’s because of the amount of games being played. Simple as that.”
