Many citizens believe the “Sith Lord” figure would be a “perfect and harmless replacement” for Colston.
The inhabitants of the city of Bristol (UK) were surprised to see a statue of Darth Vader occupying the site of the monument to the slave trader Edward Colston this December 2, demolished in June during the anti-racist protests.
It is unknown who placed the job, but it was certainly a tribute to the recently deceased actor David Prowse, originally from Bristol, who played the role of the villain in the “Star Wars” saga.
Darth Vader is not the first monument to be placed on this pedestal, as the protesters threw Colston’s figure into the river. But he seems to be the first to have the chance to stay there permanently, as he has received support from local residents.
A poll, conducted by the Bristol Post, shows that many citizens believe it would be a “perfect and harmless replacement” for the Colston statue.
British actor David Prowse, born in Bristol, died on November 29 at the age of 85.
